SeaScape Energy was originally established between enXco A/S,
owned by SIIF Energies, Zilkha Renewables and Wind Prospect.
Now the company is wholly owned by DONG Energy A/S.
SeaScape Energy's first offshore project is the Burbo Offshore
Wind Farm, located in Liverpool Bay 6km from the coastline
of Wirral, Crosby and Liverpool.
Burbo Offshore will consist of 25 turbines, each capable
of producing 3.6 MW of electricity. This means Burbo Offshore
can generate up to 90MW of clean, renewable energy for the
next 25 years. That's enough electricity for over 75,000 homes
or 12% of all the houses in Merseyside.
As well as providing electricity, Burbo Offshore will help
tackle the problem of global warming. The wind farm will reduce
the emission of carbon dioxide by as much as 250,000 tonnes
per year. Burbo Offshore also reduces nitrous oxide emissions,
one of the key components of acid rain, by 950 tonnes per
year.
Burbo Offshore received all necessary consents on the 14th
July 2003, following a successful application to the Government
in October 2002. Construction began in 2006 with the installation
of the foundations. The wind turbines will be installed in
2007 and the project will be generating electricity by the
end of the year.
