Company history, ownership and philosophy
Wind Prospect grew out of Windcluster Ltd, a company established
by Colin Palmer in 1988. Windcluster was one of the first
wind energy developers in the UK and pioneered developments
in the northwest of England. Its first project of five Vestas
V27 turbines was commissioned in 1992 and has remained in
the company's ownership to this day. In addition to the Haverigg
project, Windcluster identified a number of other potential
sites and in 1995 Wind Prospect took on the development and
construction of these projects.
Windcluster and Wind Prospect are now independent companies.
Wind Prospect is privately owned with four shareholder/directors.
The company operates a share scheme for employees, established
by the initial transfer of 10% of the shares.
By 2008 Wind Prospect and its associated companies had grown
from 2 employees in 1995 to a total of 108. Wind Prospect
places great importance on providing a challenging yet supportive
working environment and the success of this approach is clear
from the very low levels of staff turnover. The introduction
of the share plan is a further contribution to involving everyone
in the development and future of the company.

Wind Prospect has a robust, networked structure which enables
it to be geographically dispersed whilst retaining a distinctive
style and ethos. The company particularly values its independence
and autonomy, which enables it to be flexible and adaptable. Responsibility
is highly devolved so that decision making is rapid and responsive
to individual needs and circumstances, a key strength in the fast
moving renewable energy market.
Partners
Wind Prospect has financed growth entirely from its own resources
and by adopting a partnership approach to the funding of new business
areas. In particular, Wind Prospect has worked closely with major
partners such as PowerGen plc and has a wide ranging joint venture
in the UK with enXco
A/S, the Danish developer now part of the French SIIF
Energies Group.
