Wind Prospect is Developer's Developer of 2003

The 2003 UK Developer's Developer award has been won by two of Wind Prospect's Directors, Dr Euan Cameron and Mr Colin Palmer, by the British Wind Energy Association.

The annual award, voted for by industry peers, was presented to the Wind Prospect team at the BWEA Conference Gala Dinner in Glasgow. It follows a decade of commitment to the wind industry and a recent run of planning successes, construction achievements and a significant increase in their operations portfolio to nearly 50 turbines.

Since their first project at Haverigg in 1992, the team have been involved in over 30 approved wind farms, with a total capacity of over 600MW, both onshore and offshore, in the UK, Ireland and Australia.

In 2003 Wind Prospect's planning successes have included the Burbo Bank Offshore Wind Farm (90MW) and onshore wind farms at Bicker Fen (26MW), Deeping St Nicholas (16MW), Gedney Marsh (12MW) and Glass Moor (16MW).

With Bruce Allan leading the company's engineering services, last year Wind Prospect project managed the construction of 60% of the commissioned turbines in the UK. With the company's recent planning successes, the company is in good stead to take advantage of their long history and extensive experience and lead the way in the installation of the capacity created by Renewables Obligation.

Development Director, Colin Palmer said:
"This award is a confirmation of the dedicated efforts of the Wind Prospect development team who have put together an excellent portfolio of projects. Development is a slow and sometimes frustrating process, but they have stuck at it and can take great pride in seeing the consents that are now starting to come through."

Ends.

Notes For Editors

Renewable Energy
Onshore wind energy is one of the many technologies that will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is the cleanest and lowest cost form of renewable energy available. There are currently more than 60,000 wind turbines operating throughout the world supplying electricity to over 40 million people.

The UK is the windiest country in Europe and at present less than 1% of our electricity is supplied by wind energy compared to as much as 25% of electricity supplied by the wind in parts of Germany.

Government Targets for Renewable Energy
The latest Government thinking at the national level on renewables is embodied in the Energy White Paper, published in February 2003. The overriding new policy commitment is that, "the UK should put itself on a path towards a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of some 60% from current levels by about 2050".

To reflect this commitment, legislation aims to have 10% of the UK's electricity to be delivered from renewable energy sources by 2010, with an aspirational target of 20% by 2020.

Wind Prospect
Wind Prospect is a leading independent renewable energy developer, working in UK, Ireland and Australia, both onshore and offshore. Wind Prospect's success in development, construction and operations has been based on a decade of experience, flexibility and a pioneering spirit.
