Grise Wind Farm is a Wind Prospect proposal for 9 wind turbines
on land adjacent to and north of the Skelton Transmitting Station,
3km North of the Village of Skelton and approximately 10km North
West of Penrith, Cumbria.
The nine wind turbine development would play a significant and
positive role in the fight against climate change and associated
environmental impacts - and it would help to achieve both regional
and national targets for renewable energy production.
The need for the generation of electricity from renewable resources
stems from the need to combat global climate change. Renewable technologies
are internationally recognised as providing a direct and readily available
means of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Government policy provides for
the encouragement of energy generation from renewable sources in order to
reduce harmful atmospheric emissions from fossil fuel usage and to meet the
future demand for energy using diverse and secure supplies. Wind energy has
been recognised as being the most technologically advanced cost effective,
direct and readily available means of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
