Wind Prospect submitted a planning application to Argyll
and Bute Council for Stacain Wind Farm in April 2005 and have
received consent on 19 December 2007. (Press
Realease in ReNews)
The development is for 14 wind turbines, each rated at 3
MW, giving a total of 42 MW. This would provide clean, green
electricity to meet the equivalent needs of over 23,000 homes.
The wind farm would also prevent approximately 57,000 tonnes
of harmful carbon dioxide being discharged into the atmosphere
every year, helping in the fight against global warming.
The site is located on land to the northwest of Lochan Shira
reservoir, next to Sròn Mòr hydroelectric power station, and
approximately 5.5km south of Dalmally and will be almost 2km
from the nearest residential property.
Residents will have the opportunity to invest between £250
and £500 in the project via an investment company, and an
estimated £42,000 local trust fund will be set up and managed
by a committee of local residents.
