The remote and beautiful Shetland Isles are becoming increasingly
self sufficient and sustainable with the uptake of a wind
energy scheme.
Close to the island capital of Lerwick is the Burradale windcluster
that has been constructed over two phases. The first phase
consists of three 660kW turbines, which were commissioned
in 2000. A second phase consists two 850kW turbines, which
were commissioned in early 2003.
Wind Prospect acted as project managers for leading turbine
suppliers Vestas during the construction for both phases.
