Green Rigg Wind Farm is a Wind Prospect proposal for eighteen
2MW wind turbines within the Birtley Parish of Tynedale. A
formal Planning Application was submitted to Tynedale District
Council in January 2006. It included a full Environmental
Impact Assessment (EIA). During the course of the development
process, both before and after submission of the planning
application, the wind farm design evolved to reflect the outcome
of a series of site investigations, consultations and consultee
responses. By July 2006 Wind Prospect had completed the submission
of Supplementary Environmental Information to Tynedale District
Council.
Wind Prospect Senior Development Manager for the North East,
Tim Matthews, said:
"A series of iterative environmental impact assessments
and consultations were an important part of the design process.
Reviewing each environmental aspect as new information came
to light enabled us to factor all relevant considerations
into the design of the development. By this means we have
been able to minimize the potential impact on any one of the
aspects, and come up with a design for a wind farm which will
both fit in with the landscape and environmental character
of the area, whilst at the same time making a significant
contribution toward our need to both improve our energy security
and reduce our reliance on fossil based fuel technologies."
