Acting for owners Windcluster Ltd, Wind Prospect secured planning
permission in August 2002 to replace five 10 year old Vestas
V27-225kW turbines with four Vestas V52-850 kW machines. This
will substantially increase the power generated from this
well-accepted site near Millom in south Cumbria.
Wind Prospect was appointed as project managers of the site
by Vestas Celtic Ltd. Construction was completed by Ken Hope
Ltd of Rockcliffe, Cumbria doing the civil works, and Econnect
of Hexham, Northumberland carrying out the electrical installation
and commissioning.
The decommissioning of the existing five turbines was carried
out by Agrilek of Barrow in Furness with three of them being
re-erected by the Gigha Trust on the Isle of Gigha at the
end of 2004.
The wind farm is connected to the Grid by two separate 5
km long export cables (due to restraints on the Grid).
