The Stags Holt windcluster is an 18MW wind energy project
on land owned by the Deptford family at Stags Holt near March
in Cambridgeshire.
The nine-turbine project will be able to supply the electricity
needs of approximately 10,000 homes. Planning consent was
granted by Fenland District Council in mid 2002. The 80m diameter
wind turbines at Stags Holt will each have a maximum power
output of around 2MW and be mounted on 59m high towers.
The project was originally developed in partnership with TXU-Europe
and in close consultation with environmental organisations,
local residents and Fenland District Council. The initial
site location was originally identified as a result of a strategic
study of the wind energy potential of the Fenland area. The
project is now owned by E.ON UK Renewables, formerly Powergen
Renewables.
Wind Prospect managed the extensive preconstruction activities at Stags
Holt including geotechnical investigations and revised foundation designs
. An archaeological investigation also took place,
with trial trenches across the location of each turbine.
Construction work is now under way with roads and foundations going in. The project is
expected to be operational by mid 2007.
