December 2002 saw the commissioning of one of Britain's largest wind farms, 24 x 1.3 MW Nordex N60 turbines at Bowbeat. The 76m high turbines (46m steel towers, with 60m diameter blades) have been erected on moorland in the Moorfoot Hills some 7.5 km north east of Peebles. The site proved particularly difficult to construct, a result of the combination of areas of deep peat and extremely steep slopes.

Wind Prospect managed the construction of Bowbeat on behalf of Powergen Renewables Ltd, who were granted planning permission in August 2000.
